PERDUE SPEAKS AT GTP AUTHORITY BOARD MEETING
Governor Beverly Perdue visited the N.C. Global TransPark (GTP)in October and expressed her gratitude to the early supporters of the business park for their longstanding loyalty to the GTP.
Perdue, who was known for her steady support of the Global TransPark during her tenure as lieutenant governor, attended the Authority’s Board of Directors meeting presided over by Authority Chairman Eugene A. Conti.
During her remarks, Governor Perdue recalled the early days of the GTP’s existence in the 1990s and the longstanding search for tenants, both small and large. She spoke at length about the 2008 decision by Spirit AeroSystems to come to the GTP and assume the role as an anchor tenant.
During her subsequent report to the Authority Board, GTP Exec utive Director Darlene Waddell updated board members on a wide range of activities, including an increased emphasis on marketing the GTP, even in a soft economy.
Waddell said, “Marketing the GTP has taken on a special urgency. We are committed to being as aggressive as we can. Nothing takes the place of good, old-fashioned salesmanship."
She also noted, “While the acquisition of Spirit is a historical turning point, the key to the TransPark's continuing success is developing other sites and attracting more new tenants."
Among other reports given at the meeting was one by Rick Davis, the site operations director for Spirit in Kinston. Davis brought attendees up to date on the construction of Spirit’s 500,000 square foot manufacturing facility.
