SENATOR RICHARD BURR VISITS GTP TENANTS
KINSTON, N.C. — U.S. Senator Richard Burr stopped at the Global TransPark on Thursday to visit with GTP tenants Spirit AeroSystems and Spatial Integrated Systems, as well as leadership and management from the GTP.
During the first stop of the visit, Burr received an overview of current and future GTP initiatives from Executive Director Darlene Waddell, followed by an overview of Spirit AeroSystems' progress and future plans by Rick Davis, North Carolina site operations director.
Burr's visit continued with a tour of Spirit's new 500,000 square foot manufacturing facility, currently under construction. Once complete, the facility will be the manufacturing site for the center fuselage and front wing spar sections of the Airbus A350 XWB. Spirit expects the facility to begin operations in spring 2010.
Burr's final stop of the GTP visit was at Spatial Integrated Systems, where company representatives explained how SIS's latest technological developments are being used by the Department of Defense to protect U.S. military personnel.
