DR. COURTNEY THORNTON NAMED TO GTP BOARD OF DIRECTORS
KINSTON , N.C. -- Dr. Courtney H. Thornton of Durham has been appointed to board membership of the N.C. Global TransPark Authority. Thornton is the research director for the University of North Carolina General Administration .
The N.C. Global TransPark Authority, chaired by the governor of North Carolina , is responsible for planning, building and operating the Global TransPark (GTP) project.
Thornton was appointed to the post by UNC system president Erskine Bowles to fill the vacancy left by Dr. Steven Leath after his resignation.
In her UNC system position, Thornton works closely with faculty and research administrators across the 16-university system to advance research and sponsored program activity. She holds undergraduate degrees in chemistry and science education and masters and doctoral degrees in higher education administration.
The N.C. Global TransPark is a multi-modal transportation business park created by the state. Strategically located in Eastern North Carolina, the GTP's mission is to attract aerospace, logistics and related industries to become an aerospace and transportation hub for the East Coast of the United States.
